Cameras for Charity

 

PhotoVoice's Cameras for Charity service can find a home for any working camera or useful piece of photographic equipment you no longer need.

This scheme has made an essential contribution to the work of PhotoVoice, and generous donations of equipment and film have enabled us to run participatory photography workshops around the world, at all levels from beginners to advanced.

Because of the varying demands of each project, and of each individual within the projects, we can make use of a wide variety of equipment.

For example, the time restriction of our three-week pilot project in Afghanistan with street-working children, necessitated the use of fully automatic 35mm cameras.  However, our long-term projects in, for example, Vietnam and London also teach advanced photography with the majority of students progressing from automatic cameras to manual SLRs.  A number of students have gone on to work as professional photographers and PhotoVoice aim to support these participants by providing them with their own equipment.  Increasingly PhotoVoice are also looking at ways of incorporating digital photography into its workshops.
