Tib George Ciocirlie, community manager at Photofoundation shares information about a new initiative designed to help charities use photography.
Photography is more popular now than ever before. It is ubiquitous, and used continuously to capture feelings, make statements, start movements or share lunch. From this relentless unprecedented wave of imagery, only a very few will actually be put to good use. While most images simply dwell on social media feeds or remain stored on people’s harddrives, Photofoundation offers a new, engaging way to give, and to contribute. A way in which users can support good causes, charities and nonprofits and achieve social impact through their photography. Photofoundation encourages contributors to share powerful images conveying meaning, or a story they relate to.
What is Photofoundation?
Photofoundation is an online platform, that enables its users to contribute to the causes they care most about through something they love: photography. Either sharing their best photos or buying images from Photofoundation’s growing image bank, contributors can support charities and nonprofit organisations, this way encouraging a ‘new way of giving’.

How do charities and nonprofits benefit?
As a social enterprise Photofoundation allows charities, community interest companies and other nonprofit organisations to access imagery, request photographs and use them on their websites or marketing campaigns, at no cost. Photofoundation distributes a share of the profits from commercial sales to their partner charities, while buyers get to give something back, happy in the knowledge that their purchase has helped a good cause.
Photofoundation is currently working with over sixty charity partners, covering cancer, disability, mental health, housing, education, counselling, volunteering and wildlife charities.
