Photographers volunteering to help refugee crisis in LesVos

06 Jan 2016

Photographers Paul Hill and Maria Falconer are planning to spend five weeks volunteering on the Greek island of LesVos. They are providing assistance to the thousands of refugees who have made it to the island.

Maria, a finalist in the inaugural theprintspace PhotoVoice awards, writes:

“Although there is little reported in the press, LesVos welcomed more than 58,000 refugees in December and 499,226 since the beginning of 2015! This crisis is not going away.

Refugees arrive having undergone traumatic journeys. Many of them have lost friends and family members along the way. The boat journeys are perilous and terrifying, and refugees arrive cold, exhausted and fearful, often in need of medical treatment.

Volunteers do their best to provide essentials such as; blankets, clothing and shoes, food, a warm, dry, safe place to sleep and transport to the medical and registration facilities.”

They are raising funds to help support their efforts, offering a range of photographic prints as a thank you for donations received.
